James thrives on building systems at the intersection of hardware and software that perform useful work in the real world. James started his career in mechanical engineering designing and building next-generation 5G wireless systems. He then went on to develop and deploy earth-moving robots at a Silicon Valley startup. Specifically, using excavators to autonomously dig trenches for large scale utility projects.
At Autodesk Research, James is working on Adaptive Product Assembly — looking at how to use robotics to go from a CAD model to a finished product assembly.
